New tools: the ingredient converter and kitchen timer
Two new free tools on the website. Convert cups to grams for over a hundred ingredients, and run several named kitchen timers at once.
Two new free tools are live today, both pieces of what Guided Kitchen does inside every recipe.
The ingredient converter
Convert cups, tablespoons and teaspoons to grams, and back, for flour, sugar, butter, oats, cocoa and over a hundred other ingredients. It uses the same density table as the app, so the numbers match what you'll see in a converted recipe.
A few things it handles that a generic converter doesn't:
- How it was measured. Flour scooped from the bag weighs more than flour spooned and levelled. Brown sugar packed weighs more than loose.
- Which cup. Switch between a US cup and the 250 ml metric cup used in Australia and Canada.
- When not to weigh. Liquids stay in millilitres, and a pinch of spice stays a pinch.
The kitchen timer
A timer for more than one thing at a time. Name each one, rice, eggs, oven, and start as many as you need. There are presets for the usual suspects: soft-boiled eggs, pasta, rice, resting a steak and proofing dough.
Timers keep counting if you reload the page, and if you allow notifications, you'll get one when a timer finishes while you're in another tab.

Nothing on the clock
Run as many at once as you like — the pasta, the sauce and the garlic bread can each have their own.
What's next
More tools are on the workbench: an oven temperature converter, a pan size converter and a recipe scaler. If there's a kitchen question you'd like a tool for, email us.
