Welcome to Guided Kitchen
Why I'm building a calmer home for the recipes you cook, what's in it today, and how you can help shape what comes next.
Hello, and welcome. I'm Mark, and Guided Kitchen is the recipe app I've wanted for years.
It started with a simple problem. The recipes I actually cook were scattered across a dozen places: a bookmark to a food blog with three thousand words before the ingredients, a reel I saved at midnight and never found again, a screenshot of a screenshot, and a card in my mum's handwriting. Every time I wanted to cook one, I had to remember where it lived, then scroll past the ads to reach it.
What Guided Kitchen does
You give it a link, from a recipe site, YouTube, Instagram or TikTok, and it keeps just the recipe: the ingredients, the method, and a clear link back to the cook who wrote it. Then it's yours to work with.
- Organise recipes into collections that match how you cook (weeknights, Sunday bakes, Mum's recipes), and share a collection with the people you cook with.
- Make your own version. Change the amounts or the method and keep your notes beside it. The original stays exactly as the cook wrote it.
- Cook from a calm screen. Cook mode shows one step at a time in large text, and turns "simmer for 20 minutes" into a timer you can start with a tap.
There's a fuller list on the features page, and it only lists what works today. Things still being built are marked as such.
What it isn't
It isn't a social network, and it won't invent recipes for you. The AI in Guided Kitchen does one dull job: finding the recipe in a cluttered page or a video. It doesn't rewrite how a cook does things. When you save a recipe, you get the real one, tidied up and credited.
Free tools, today
While the app is in private beta, some of what it does is free for everyone on this site:
- The salt converter, because a teaspoon of kosher salt is not a teaspoon of table salt.
- The ingredient converter, for when an American recipe says "1 cup of flour" and you'd rather weigh it.
- The kitchen timer, which runs several named timers at once, ideal once your mise en place is done and three things are on the go.
How you can help
I'm building this on my own, so what gets built next should be what home cooks actually need. If you'd like a say, vote on the feature board. If you'd like to try it, join the waitlist: I'm sending invites in small batches so I can talk to everyone who joins.
Thanks for reading. Happy cooking.
