Import a recipe from a YouTube video
Turn a cooking video into a written recipe you can cook from, even when the cook never wrote it down.
What you'll need
- A Guided Kitchen account (join the waitlist for an invite)
- The link to a YouTube cooking video
Plenty of the best recipes only exist as videos. Guided Kitchen watches the video and reads its description, then writes out the ingredients and steps for you, with the channel credited as the source.
1. Copy the video's link
On YouTube, tap Share under the video, then Copy link. On a computer you can also copy the address from the address bar.
2. Paste it into Import a recipe
Open Import a recipe in Guided Kitchen and paste the link into the Recipe URL box. You'll see a YouTube label next to it. Tap Import Recipe.
3. Give it a moment
A video takes a little longer than a web page, because the whole thing is watched rather than read. Longer videos take longer. You can leave the page: the recipe appears in your Library when it's done.
4. Check the amounts, then cook
When the cook says "a good glug of oil" rather than a measurement, that's what the recipe will say too: nothing is invented. Read through once, add a note where you'd like a firmer amount, and you're ready.
If it doesn't work
Private, members-only or age-restricted videos can't be read. You'll see a message saying so.
Long videos take longer to read, and a video that's more chat than cooking may not have a recipe we can find.
Instagram or TikTok instead? Those work the same way: copy the post's link and paste it in. Instagram posts need to be a video; image-only posts can't be read yet.
